- Switch to simple editing if you have difficulty editing or you are a new player
- There is no real advantage for players who are already consistent and good at editing
Along with the brilliant Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 1, Fortnite also announced an almost game-changing feature—simple editing. A unique feature designed to make editing “simpler”. However, along with the excitement about this new feature, there is also the question of whether you should switch to it or not.
So, we finally decided to answer this question. Explains in detail the differences between normal editing and simple editing, considers the pros and cons of simple editing, and provides a clear answer on whether you should switch or not.

What is Simple Edit?
Simple edit is a feature to make editing easier. Instead of pressing the edit button and manually selecting the section tiles you want to edit, you can edit with just one tap. All you need to do is look at the section you want to edit and press the edit button and the section will be edited automatically.
Regular Editing
Select a tile and press the edit button to confirm.
Simple Editing
Just press the edit button once while viewing the section you want to edit. For windows, just look in the middle. The icon in the middle also shows what edits will be made when you confirm.
How to Enable Simple Edit
Enabling simple editing is relatively simple:
- Open Fortnite Settings.
- Navigate to the Game Tab (the fourth one with the gear icon).
- Scroll down until you see the Building Section.
- You will see two settings, Simple Edit and Tap to Simple Edit. Set both to “On”.
Advantages of Simple Editing Fortnite
The biggest advantage of simple editing is in its name, its simplicity. Being able to edit with just one click is very helpful. During testing, I found that it was easier to perform triple edits on simple edits than normal edits. This reduces the amount of time you have to press the edit button to edit making editing faster.
The second thing is the ability to reset the build with just one tap as well. Typically, you have to press the edit button, then press the reset button, then the edit button again to confirm. That is, three full inputs to reset one part. In contrast, in simple editing, all you need to do is view the edited section and press the button once to reset it.
Of course, resetting edits has never been a problem for PC players due to the mouse wheel reset binding, but controller players still face this problem.
The biggest advantage is that you can’t miss any edits. If you are trapped in a box and the enemy is pressing you, it is possible that -when trying to get out of the box- you mess up the edit. With simple editing, this won’t be a problem as you won’t have to select the editing tiles yourself. Simply put, your editing consistency with simple edits will peak.
Fortnite Simple Editing Cons
The simplicity of simple editing is a double-edged sword. Of course, this makes editing simpler and easier, but it also eliminates the customization that many high-skilled players appreciate. There are only a limited number of edits you can make with simple edits.
The best example is the floor piece. With simple editing, you can only do four types of editing, namely opening one floor tile on all sides. On the other hand, you have many options with normal editing, such as opening 2 or 3 sections of the floor.
The final big downside is the removal of the fun factor. While simple edits make editing easier, they also make it tedious. While this depends on personal opinion, performing classic Mongraal edits or triple edits in normal edit mode is much more satisfying and rewarding than simple edits.
If I explained it with an example, I would say it’s like the difference between driving a manual stick shift car versus an automatic car. Sure, the latter is easier, more convenient, and more practical, but the fun factor is in the former.
Should You Consider Switching to Simple Editing?
If you have been playing Fortnite for some time and are confident in your editing abilities or editing has never been a problem for you, then switching brings no real benefits. On the contrary, it actually takes away your creativity. This is why many pro players don’t switch to simple editing.
However, if you are someone who struggles with editing or is not perfect at it, then there is a strong reason to make the switch. Likewise, players new to Fortnite or switching to build mode may also benefit greatly. This will save you hours of practice and allow you to focus on other important things like aiming, game sense and positioning.
In essence, simple editing is designed to close the skill gap between players who are good at editing and players who are not.
Additionally, other players who benefit greatly from using simple editing are controller players. Honestly, editing on a controller is much more difficult than on a KBM. In games where you need to be precise and quick with your edits, controller players often struggle. This is why simple edits can make editing easy for you.
But, again if you are already good at editing then there is no reason to switch.
Are Simple Edits Faster Than Regular Edits?
Technically yes, but it also depends on the player. For example, if you take a professional like Peterbot who has amazing mechanics, the difference in editing speed for him in simple editing and normal editing will be indistinguishable.
However, if you took ordinary players who didn’t have perfect mechanics then the difference in editing speed for them would be night and day.
After all, simple editing removes all input from the editing process, which is technically faster.
Conclusion
Simply put, simple edits are a tool that Epic Games provides for casual players to bridge the mechanical skill gap. This aims to make editing easier and simpler while keeping the mechanical aspects running. Most pros won’t switch to simple editing, but you’ll see many other players switch to this setting, mainly because it makes editing so much easier.
